Direct Action ESOL was created by American students Nicole Borba and Brian Ward during the final year of their master’s degree program at Upper Brittany University in Rennes, France. They conceived the idea for this website thanks to their interest in nonviolent direct action as a subject to promote meaningful interaction among upper-intermediate level English language learners. As ESOL teachers, Nicole and Brian see the language classroom as a transformative experience which can be enhanced by educational technology.
Originally from California, Nicole is a language instructor and
consultant residing in northwest France. She has experience teaching
students of diverse backgrounds and is interested in carrying out
lessons that mobilize them in the learning process.
Brian, a native of Tulsa, Oklahoma, has been living in France since
September 2013. Currently a substitute English instructor, he enjoys
the challenge of being a new teacher. His interests include reading,
music, nature, animals, and (of course) school vacations.
