The electronic materials used for this course sequence include:

 

- Wix.com, the platform used to create the website

 

- The following applications from LearningApps.org:

  • Matching Pairs, which replaces paper-and-pencil matching activities

  • Number line, which requires students to arrange information in chronological order

  • Select Quiz, which replaces paper-and-pencil multiple choice quizzes

  • Audio/Video with notices, which pauses media so that students can answer comprehension questions that appear

  • Pinboard, which allows students to post and share information

  • Cloze test, which replaces paper-and-pencil fill-in-the-blank exercises.

 

- JustPaste.it, a site that allows students to paste text that can be distributed with a URL

 

- Vocaroo, an online voice recorder that can be used for pronunciation exercises

- The following English language corpora:
          Phrases in English, a search tool that allows users to find concordances from the British National Corpus
          The Corpus of Contemporary American English (COCA) from Brigham Young University

- Nonviolent-conflict.org, the Glossary of Terms by the International Center for Nonviolent Conflict


- Merriam-Webster.com, an on-line dictionary with audio files for pronunciation

- Online-audio-converter.com, which creates MP3 files

- TheFreeDictionary.com, a user-friendly, on-line English dictionary

- WordReference.com, an on-line translation dictionary

- OxfordDictionaries.com, an on-line language tool offering grammar tutorials

The following authentic documents were used for the course unit :
 

  • Iconic photographs of historical examples of nonviolent direct action

  • “Civil Disobedience”, a YouTube video narrated by Stephen Fry and uploaded by BBC Radio 4

  • A selection of video interviews of Hardy Merriman, Vice-President of the International Center on Nonviolent Conflict

  • Examples of teach-in flyers

 

Please note : Students will work with additional authentic documents that they select as they do research.
